I’ll be leading this 1 hour online workshop for the National Capital Puppetry Guild as part of their monthly virtual meeting lineup. Join this wonderful guild to have free access to their workshops. You need not live in the National Capital area (or even in the US) to join.
I’ll be leading a weekend workshop on making shadow puppet films on a multiplane this fall in New York City at the Henson Carriage House for the Green Feather Foundation. We’ll have a pre-workshop making night on Halloween, Friday October 31 from 6-9pm. Then two days of exploring filming live-performed puppets on a multiplane rig on Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 6pm. It’s an opportunity to dig into this endlessly fascination art form while being at a historically important space for American puppetry arts with the dedicated team of Green Feather. I’m leading the 5-day online shadow mechanics workshop, Shadow Puppetry (level 2), for the 9th time for the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival Spring 2025 workshop series. We’re trying a new schedule format with five 2-hour sessions spread over three weeks on Wednesday and Thursday nights on from March 12-26. Sessions run 7-9pm CT / 8-10pm ET. I’m leading two 1.25 hour workshops at the 2023 National Puppetry Festival at the University of Maryland on July 20, 2023: Multiplane Puppetry and Flat Mechanics. They are just two of dozens of workshops that will run over 4 days, in addition to shows, symposiums, community parades, and general puppeteer camaraderie. I’m leading the 6th session of this online workshop, Shadow Puppetry II, for the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival workshop series. This time we’re trying a new schedule format. Instead of 5 sessions in one week, we’re spreading the same sessions out over three weeks on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, 8-10pm ET: April 5, 6, 12, 13, and 19. I’ll be leading an online mask making workshop for the February installment of Boston University’s Women & Masks series organized by Felice Amato. Other presenters for this session include German marionette artist Alice Gottschalk. More information including time and registration TBA.
Tom Lee and I are leading an in-person 1-day workshop during the 2022 Chicago International Puppet Theatre Festival, which runs from Jan 20-30 with dozens of performances and workshops. Tom will be onsite, I’ll be joining via zoom. More information and registration at the Festival website:
Puppet Artists Linda Wingerter and Tom Lee will collaborate with participants on a shadow puppetry workshop with live video projection. Linda will lead the group in fabricating mechanized shadow figures and objects and Tom will direct the manipulation of these puppets using live feed video and light tables. Please note: Linda will be teaching remotely from her studio in Ithaca, NY.
I’m teaching a 2 hour, online, hands-on workshop on prototyping mechanics for shadow puppets and other 2-D puppets for the Boston Area Guild of Puppetry on Friday, November 19, 6:30-8:30pm ET. For guild members only, but anyone anywhere can join. More about the workshop on their website here.
I'm teaching mechanics for articulated shadow puppet figures for the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival again in Octobr and August. This 1 week workshop will build off of levers and linkages for flat puppets, using cheap materials and methods for rapid prototyping to help you develop unique multiple movements. Gravity, stops, returns and controls will be considered for both vertically and horizontally performed puppets.

October 4-10: classes held on Mon, Tues, Thur, Sat, Sun 8-10pm Eastern US time
November 1-7: classes held on Mon, Tues, Thur, Sat, Sun 8-10pm Eastern US time
